it's because humans, like most other creatures have the tendency to take high risks that are frontal, not life threatening, to obtain the "glory", the "prizey winnings". Like finding a mate, who doens't realize the dangers of approaching someone they like, but still dive in anyways knowing the chances are low.
It's also (and this is the actual mainly one) because people cannot tell the difference between a random number generatored game, which is a mathematical-determined game from a common labor one. In nature, no mathemtical-determined moving rock can be determined - it's entirely set by natural physical rules - those are their rules. With the lack of visual indicator of math-determined game, folks keep on trying it again and again thinking and completely operate as if natural physical laws and rules apply there.
Some addictions are very similar, addictions in essence is an unwanted habit that keeps coming back. Eating is another, excessive desire for anything is an addiction. Humans view themself inproperly - they are creatures with a lot of odd habits, since they are brain/logic based creature rather than senses. Senses give out more signatures, while logic and use of brain give out information. These information if wrong, then the person will do whack stuff, often stopped until physical pain and bloodshed (visual signals of danger and bad) kicks in. While creatures with sense-usage can gather more data and misinformation do not work on them as nearly good, if not completely immune to.
^ fast typing above, that's it for now, no edit taken place, no backspace was pressed, and I shall return to give out more wisdom on here, hoorah.
